A sterile, undeveloped 'garden' on a newly built detached house at Braeburn park, Crayford, consisting of imported top-soil and no planting. It also sloped upwards, away from the house.

A family garden allowing for formal dining, sunbathing and a quiet retreat. They also wished to have a level garden.

We offered 3 options, each with a distinctly different character. The client chose Option B "Simple Geometry". The design consisted of a large formal deck, for dining, juxtaposed with a raised deck for sun loungers. The dining deck has steps, constructed of new 'sleepers', which lead to the formal, circular lawn. Much use is made of low maintenance, architectural planting, such as black/yellow bamboo and grasses. To the left of the conservatory is a 'gin & tonic retreat', constructed of tiles. The coloured shapes in the sketch show the geometrical arrangement for the design. The wall of bricks and sleepers, as well as being decorative, allowed us to create two flat levels by moving and retaining the existing soil.
